SESSION TWO

The party hiked and encountered some of the indigenous mammals known as Hobgars, little blue and brown simian-like creatures that loved to steal technology and were capable of biting and using the native charged mists of the planet to store and later release shocking blasts to their enemies. Jim proved to be much fiercer than the hobgars, however and scared them off before a fight could start.
As they got closer to the colony village, they noticed that their comms were being jammed by a signal that seemed to originate that the village. The comms worked, but only at close range.
A little while later, a human male was spotted running toward the party from the west. They hid and eventually he came along and they surprised him. He immediately surrendered his laser pistol and then told them about himself. His name was Jellik, and he was a mechanic from Madelon's Landing. He didn't have much time to discuss, however, because he said he was being chased by two of the three Azlanti soldiers that had tracked him from the village and attacked him. The third he killed earlier with his laser pistol, he claimed.
The team decided to wait for the Azlanti's and ambush them. Sure enough, two Azlanti soldiers approached and a battle ensued. Both sides traded laser fire to little effect, but then Jim moved into melee range and was able to take them out with a few helpful shots from the others. After the battle, the party decided they had better go back to the ship, taking the two unconscious Azlantis with them. They went back so that Cliffy, the ship's engineer, could rig the ship with a cloaking effect that would make their starship appear to ship-scanners as one of the clouds of charged mist that was prevalent on the planet.
That took most of the rest of the evening, but Jellik filled the team in on what had happened with the colony next (See JELLIK handout). Cliffy also managed to rig the communications device in the helmet so that they could listen to and if they wanted to send messages on it and expand the party's comms to up to 1 kilometer even in the jammed signal radius. But, if they did so, it would not be hard for the Azlanti to detect that someone was using an encrypted signal over their frequencies, and so it might alert them to the team's presence.
The party decided to head back toward Madelon's Landing in the morning. They had two Azlanti soldier armors, two more rifles, and Jellik's laser pistol along with the gear the had brought. Along the way, they found the body of the third soldier that Jellik killed, but it had already been stripped of all its armor and gear.
Eventually, Jellik got them to the colony without incident and snuck them in a back entrance of the Junk Yard where his ex-wife Aibretta was hiding out (See Aiebretta handout). Aibretta was an engineer for the colony that had hidden in the junkyard to avoid being enslaved by the Azlanti. After some discussion, they learned she was leading a resistance against the Azlanti occupation and sought their help to overthrow their alien suppressors. The team didn't see much of an option, so they agreed.
The first thing they did was to investigate an "incident" at the supply depot. That's where they met Rendell Tace, who had apparently got so lucky that an Azlanti cadet managed to kill himself with a fallen shelf that fell over onto him after he shot at Rendell. The party helped create a fake manifest of the inventory of the storage unit, and send it to the Azlanti officers that were requesting it. They also took Rendell into hiding back at the junkyard.
